The McGovern Neurosurgery Lab is a fast-paced, data-driven, and clinic-based research lab at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Collaborating with M Health Fairview and the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, researchers and team members work with human patient-participants and their data across each of these prestigious clinic and academic settings to advance Neurosurgical research and apply the findings to patient care.

Led by Principal Investigator and practicing Neurosurgeon Dr. Robert McGovern III, the McGovern Neurosurgery Lab is positioned for success with research funding, organizational support, and both direct and indirect patient-participant interaction and access.

Current projects in the lab target relatively common neurological disorders like Epilepsy (medically retractive), Parkinson’s Disease, and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalous.

Employing relatively simple surgical procedures, motion capture devices, shunts, data mining, wearable sensors, deep-brain-stimulation (DBS), and more, the McGovern lab offers a wealth of research experience opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people
